Slipping Friction Apparatus
Description:
A variable speed electric motor drives two rotating wheels on which a specimen bar oscillates with a single harmonic motion due to the even pressure that it exerts on each wheel in turn. The bar frequency is dependent on the coefficient of sliding friction. A number of specimen bars of different materials are provided. The distance between the two wheels can be varied. A stop watch is provided.
Specification:
- Self-contained, bench-mounted apparatus, to measure slipping friction in an oscillating system.
- Two contra-rotating `V` pulleys of variable centres distance driven by a variable speed motor.
- Frequency of oscillation of different rods supported by the pulleys enables the coefficient of friction to be determined
- Set of 5 rods and tubes in mild steel, brass and aluminium alloy.
- Variables to include weight of specimens.
- Stop watch provided.
